Privacy Policy

UPSCYatra is an educational platform for UPSC Civil Services aspirants. We provide structured Prelims and Mains PYQ analysis, daily current affairs, interactive reference pages (Geography, Polity, Economy, and related subjects), bookmarks, study tools, and optional paid features. Most content can be browsed without an account; signing in unlocks personalization such as bookmarks, profile settings, and subscriptions.

We aim to collect only what we need to run the product, improve it responsibly, and comply with applicable law in India. This policy is written in plain language; it is not legal advice.

Depending on how you use UPSCYatra, we may collect the following categories of information:

• Account and identity. If you sign in with Google, we receive information made available by Google (such as your name, email address, and profile photo) through Firebase Authentication.
• Profile and preferences. You may optionally provide study-related preferences (for example target exam year, attempt number, optional subject, weak subjects, or home state) to tailor your experience. These are stored in our database linked to your account.
• Study activity you save. Bookmarks, bookmark folders, and similar data you create while using the platform are stored so you can access them across sessions.
• Payment and subscription. If you purchase a paid plan, payment is processed by Razorpay. We store subscription-related records (such as order ID, payment ID, status, amount, and period end) to manage billing and support. We do not store full card or UPI credentials on our servers.
• Usage and analytics. We use PostHog and Google Analytics to understand how features are used (for example page views and interactions). These tools may use cookies or local storage in your browser. You can limit tracking through your browser settings or ad/analytics blockers.
• Technical data. We receive standard server and security logs (such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps). For logged-in users, our dashboard may use an approximate location derived from IP (via a third-party geolocation service) to show contextual information such as local weather — we do not use this for advertising.

We use collected information to:

• Provide, maintain, and secure the platform;
• Authenticate you and sync your account across devices;
• Save and display your bookmarks, profile, and subscription status;
• Process payments and send billing-related communications where needed;
• Understand usage patterns and fix bugs or improve content and features;
• Respond to support requests and enforce our policies;
• Comply with legal obligations and protect against abuse or fraud.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your study data to train third-party AI models.

We share data only with service providers who help us operate UPSCYatra, under appropriate safeguards:

• Google / Firebase — authentication and session management;
• PostHog — product analytics;
• Google Analytics — website traffic and usage analytics;
• Razorpay — payment processing;

We may also disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or integrity of UPSCYatra and its users.

We keep account and bookmark data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we will remove or anonymize it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example payment records linked to Razorpay transactions).

Analytics data in PostHog and Google Analytics is retained according to our project settings and each vendor’s policies.

We use industry-standard measures such as HTTPS, authenticated APIs, and access controls on our infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a strong Google account and do not share your login credentials.

Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to:

• Access, correct, or update personal data we hold about you;
• Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based;
• Request deletion of your account and associated data;
• Object to or restrict certain processing;
• Nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity (under the DPDP Act, where applicable).

We and our analytics providers use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in (via Firebase), remember preferences, and measure usage. You can clear cookies in your browser settings; some features may not work correctly without essential cookies.

UPSCYatra is intended for adults and serious exam aspirants. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy where permitted by law.
