The age bracket (CSE 2027)
For UPSC CSE 2027, the baseline age window for General and EWS candidates is 21 to 32 years as on 1 August 2027. That means date of birth not earlier than 2 August 1995 and not later than 1 August 2006 — subject to category relaxation below.

Educational qualification
The UPSC requires minimal but specific educational qualifications to ensure a baseline of academic competence.
Important clauses
Creamy layer (OBC)
OBC candidates belonging to the creamy layer are treated as General candidates. They are not entitled to age relaxation or additional attempts.
Attempt counting
An attempt at the Preliminary Examination is deemed to be an attempt at the Civil Services Examination. If a candidate appears in any one Prelims paper, it counts as one attempt.
Gender
UPSC does not grant separate upper-age relaxation for female candidates in CSE. Female candidates in the General category follow the same 32-year upper limit as on 1 August 2027.
