The Western Ghats are a continuous escarpment along India’s west coast, blocking the southwest monsoon and hosting a UNESCO biodiversity hotspot. The Eastern Ghats are a discontinuous, lower hill chain inland from the Coromandel coast, extending from Odisha to Tamil Nadu.
